Futbolun genç yetenekleri, Erick Cubo Torres,

1993 doğumlu, Erick Torres ‘in gerçek aile adı Padilla’dır.

Meksika liginin Süper Klasiği olan Chivas - America maçında “El Cubo” Torres’in oyunun 27. dakikasında rakibine mağlup olabileceğini hissettiren attığı ilk golü hep beraber izleyelim.

Sleeper Math Week 3

  Tier I
Rashard Mendenhall (18) – Not someone I was huge on coming in to this season but he has been off to an even slower start than expected. Make sure if you get him, you’re getting a discount
Chris Johnson (18) – His owners are starting to panic and should be very open to lopsided trade offers. CJ2k has been in my column since Week 1 and he will stay in here until he turns it around or gets injured.
Roddy White (18) – Has not been terrible but still slightly disappointing. There will not be a repeat of last years performance but Roddy should still be considered a first tier receiver.
Hakeem Nicks (17) – The injuries at WR have not translated to an increase in production for Nicks yet. That is partly because teams are keying in on trying to shut him down. Eli will put up at least 3,500 yards and 25 touchdowns and Nicks should get his share.

  Tier II
Dez Bryant (17) – He looked healthier than anticipated on Monday Night. I cannot get over how much of a stud this dude is . You still might be able to get him on the cheap. I smell a big game coming on…
Steven Jackson (17) – Sometimes you have to make exceptions for injured players. Jackson has played through injury in the past and there is a good chance that he will be healthy enough soon to do the same. The discount should be heavy and for the right price, I would get him.
Mike Williams (16) – Much like Hakeem Nicks, he is experiencing the joys of having a breakout season and having defenses focus on shutting him down. I like his production to increase from here on out.
Sidney Rice (16) – If his owners were patient enough to wait out the injury, I doubt you will get a huge discount on him at this point. The Seahawks are a train wreck but I believe in Rice’s talent. It is worth throwing some trade offers out there.
Mark Ingram (16) – He has been sort of blah thus far but looked pretty solid. It is clear that he will not be a Ryan Mathews type rookie bust, nor will he be a Steve Slaton type rookie dynamite. The truth lies somewhere in the middle and that is good enough for a flex start in most any league.
  Tier III
Bernard Scott (15) – I sort of cringe at even putting him on here because he has been so awful in the past when given an opportunity. Regardless, Benson will be out for three games at some point and Scott is the starter and that has value. He is more than worth scooping up and throwing on the bench or, if you are really hurting, in your lineup.
Alfonso Smith (15) – Thanks to the good ‘ol Sunday Ticket I got to catch quite a bit of the Cardinals game last weekend. Smith started and although he did not have a big day, he looked really good. Beanie will be taking his job back but if he re-aggravates his quad, the job will be Smiths.
Chad Ochocinco (15) – This is another tough call. What is this dudes deal? With T.O. at least he worked out and practiced like a beast. I have a sneaky suspicion that Chad has lost his desire to compete in the NFL because he thinks he will be able to get rich and famous via ridiculous statements or bad acting. What I am banking on is that he will realize no one will care about him without on field production. I snagged him in one of my leagues and am content to let him sit on the bench and hope for a turnaround.
C.J. Spiller (15) – The Bills are obviously going to go undefeated so it is prudent to start stashing some of their bench players. Fred Jackson has been such a beast thus far and a large part of it is the new dynamic offense in Buffalo; I cannot believe I am saying that. If Jackson gets hurt, Spiller could be enormous.
Roy Helu (15) – He has really looked pretty good thus far and the Redskins coaching staff has done nothing but praise him. Everyone is fixating on Tim Hightower but I really think there is a good chance you will see Helu as the more productive back toward the middle/end of the season.

The NFL season

Hola Razzballians. We are finally starting to settle in to the NFL season. At this point you should be expecting some trends to develop, but many trenders were tarnished in week three (see the law office of Green,Davis, Simpson, Burleson, and Branch). Trying to predict what will happen in this crazy fake sport is like trying to prevent Christopher Walken from playing the creepy guy in every movie he’s in. It’s just not happening, but let’s try anyway.

This Week’s Studs

Andre Caldwell-seeing more playing time as a result of Jerome Simpson’s impending jail time, Caldwell showed why he has a chance to be the most consistent target in the Bengal passing game. With Green up and down (5 targets, 4 rec., 29 yards in week three) Caldwell filled the gap by garnering 12 targets (5th in the league) for 6 receptions and 53 yards. Unless Simpson’s munchies allow him to eat the mountain of evidence against him, you should expect consistency from Caldwell in the future. Some of you may remember his sporadic production a year ago when he played third fiddle to the T.Ocho show. I see him as a solid flex play this week in what should be a shootout with the Bills, or at least one team shooting out the Bengals and the Bengals shooting blanks. Either way, he should see a lot of targets. If Simpson is sidelined, I like Caldwell as a solid flex/WR 3 going forward.

Michael Jenkins-Cagey drafters may have taken a flier on Jenkins in hopes that he would work his way to a solid spot in the tenuous Vikings pass game, only to drop him after two weeks of lackluster production. Tied for 8th in the league with 11 targets, Jenkins joyously jumped on nine of those passes, gaining 88 yards. Personally, I’m not as confident in his sustained production as I am, in say, Caldwell or Sidney Rice’s, but you can bank on a few facts: McNabb will need mcthrow it, a lot; Bernard Berrian is an abomination, and Percy Harvin’s headaches will frustrate fantasy owners at least a handful of times this season. Keep your eye on him.

Sidney Rice-Those who drafted Rice in hopes that his talent would overcome Tavaris Jackson’s lackthereof, were finally rewarded when Rice played his first game of the season on Sunday, putting up a respectable eight catch, 109 yard performance on 10 targets. As bad as Jackson is, his chemistry with Rice is apparent and he now goes from easily droppable to damn near must startable. It’s one game, but his talent is undeniable and barring any injury setbacks, he is a guy I would like to have in my lineup.

Antonio Brown-Once again, he wasn’t blowing anybody away but after week one I wrote about Brown as the guy to eventually take the number two spot from Hines Ward and he is finally starting to take over that role. Targeted more times than Mike Wallace, Brown led the team with eight targets, capitalizing on four for 75 yards. Ward was warranted a dismal four targets (3 catches, 17 yards), and Colonel Sanders sauntered in with five (2 catches, 21 yards). Don’t wait until Brown explodes for a 100 plus yard, two touchdown game. Get him before they start writing about him on ESPN and Yahoo. In short, ask yourself this question: what can Brown do for you?

Torrey Smith-Torrey exploried the end zone on his first three catches and as a result he is a guy that is suddenly on everyone’s radar. I will say that his talent is undeniable and he is a guy I was watching in the preseason along with Tandon Doss, but I do believe that if healthy, Evans will be a big play guy in Raven offense who can steal some targets. The upside, however, clearly belongs to Torrey Smith and the way Flacco is throwing the ball, Smith is worth a waiver shot. He had 8 targets, catching five for 152 yards and 3 touchdowns.

Dane Sanzebacher-“and we’ll order it from” Sanzebacher, “and then I’ll f-ing love him completely and then I’ll…” hopefully you get the Tenacious D reference with some strong liberties with the lyrics. Now I would not endorse a strong waiver push for Sanzebacher, but he seems to be the primary red zone target for Cutler over the last two weeks and he sets up nicely for a stopgap play against the Panthers. As long as the Bears’ receiver roster looks like a platoon from Apocalypse Now, desperate owners looking to fill in a flex might think about being a member of the Dane Gang.

Titus Young-the young man certainly put up a Titan performance against the Vikings, catching four passes for 51 yards on 8 targets. I’d would be hard pressed to put him into any starting lineups but Burleson owners (I being one, twice over) should beware of this young upstart. Burleson bombed with two catches on two targets for 12 yards as Titus stole his thunder time and time again. He is guy to possibly snag off of free agency who could start peaking over the next few weeks. He’s a man to keep an eye on for sure.

Brandon Pettigrew-Pettigrew looked like he had Mackey pedigree in the Lions comeback against the ‘Vikes. Leading all tight ends with 13 targets, Pettigrew pulled in 11 catches for 112 yards. The only problem with Pettigrew is shifty Scheffler who happened to command only one target. Though research has shown that Pettigrew is the one Lion TE to own, I’ve been trying to notice a target trend with these two for over a year and I just can’t seem to nail it down. Despite the big game, I would be reluctant to call Pettigrew a TE1 but that doesn’t mean he isn’t a decent play against Dallas next week.

Texas' Nolan Brewster quits football

AUSTIN, Texas -- Texas junior safety Nolan Brewster is quitting football because of concussions and post-traumatic migraine headaches.
Brewster has a history of concussions and migraines dating back to high school. He suffered a severe concussions in No. 17 Texas' win over UCLA on Sept. 17.
Brewster had played in all three games this season for the Longhorns (3-0) at safety and on special teams. Athletic trainer Kenny Boyd says recent tests prompted officials to advise Brewster not to continue playing.

"It's something we've been monitoring very closely," said Kenny Boyd, Texas' head athletic trainer for football. "We've talked to Nolan and his family extensively about the situation, and after a recent comprehensive evaluation, we felt it was in Nolan's best interest to no longer play football."
Brewster is the son of former Minnesota head coach and Longhorns assistant Tim Brewster.
"It was probably the toughest decision I've had to make so far in my life, but I think at the end of the day, it's the right one," Brewster added. "It's difficult because I love football and playing for Texas, but I know in my heart this is the right thing to do. I just know I can't keep playing worrying about this continuing to get worse and knowing that I'm risking my long-term quality of life."
Last season, former Longhorns running back Tre' Newton gave up football because of recurring concussions.
Brewster has played in 30 career games, posting 35 tackles and an interception. He redshirted last year due to a shoulder injury.
"We're disappointed for Nolan, and I know it was a really difficult decision for him and his family," Longhorns coach Mack Brown said. "I've known him since he was a little kid and know he loves this place and playing football for Texas, so this is a tough deal, but his health is the most important thing. He's a smart young man with a bright future."

Football is back

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. -- A postgame stroll through Ralph Wilson Stadium revealed a mix of shock and uncontrollable excitement.
"Oh my God!" one Buffalo Bills fan said with his hands up. "Oh ... my ... God!"
Fans were jumping and hugging each other following Buffalo's 34-31 upset win over the New England Patriots, the Bills' first win over New England since 2003. Chants of "Let's go Buffalo" and "3-and-0" could be heard throughout the stadium.
"We have a football team again!" another Bills fan screamed.
It's official: The Bills are a factor again in the AFC East. Buffalo is in sole possession of first after the Patriots and New York Jets lost for the first time in Week 3.
Buffalo hasn't had a winning season since 2004. The Bills haven't won double-digit games since 1999. It appears all that could change this season.
This Bills team is different from previous seasons'. The 2011 Bills have heart and are fun to watch. Buffalo, which broke a 15-game losing streak against New England (2-1), has overcome deficits of 18 points or more the past two weeks.
Many Bills fans stayed in the stadium Sunday to celebrate with the players after their huge upset.
"There’s such a great connection between this franchise and this community," Bills safety George Wilson explained afterward. “We’re a blue-collar team in a blue-collar city. These fans have been with us through the ups and downs. They come out and support us even when we aren’t winning. ... I'm just happy they’re able to go to work on a Monday for a third consecutive week [with a win]."
The Bills are a young team that bottomed out during last season's 0-8 start. Buffalo is 7-4 since and heading in the right direction. It's a team filled with outcasts and overlooked players, starting with quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick and running back Fred Jackson (74 yards rushing, 87 yards receiving). This group doesn't have much name recognition nationally, but it's easy for Buffalo fans to root for.
Former Bills star running back Thurman Thomas, one of the links to Buffalo's four Super Bowl teams of the 1990s, congratulated players in the locker room after Sunday's game. He likes the new-look Bills but said there are differences from his Buffalo teams.
"The group we had, we had a lot of first-round draft picks and a lot of second-round draft picks," Thomas said. "This group, gosh, they're seventh-round picks. They're free agents, undrafted guys, but they're hungry. When you have that philosophy and that way of wanting to do things and make a name for themselves, it seems to come together."

Buffalo was the first team this season to solve the Tom Brady puzzle.
Brady entered the game on a record pace and had another solid output in terms of yards (386) and touchdowns (four). He threw for three touchdowns to give the Patriots a 21-0 lead, but Buffalo held New England to just 10 points in the second half and picked off Brady four times.
How did Buffalo do it? Route recognition and timing.
Brady made six or seven poor throws the entire game, but Buffalo got its hands on four of them. Two of Brady's four interceptions weren't his fault. Patriots running back Danny Woodhead dropped a ball near the end zone in the second quarter that was picked off by Bills safety Bryan Scott. Bills first-round pick Marcell Dareus also tipped a pass at the line of scrimmage that led to Drayton Florence's 27-yard touchdown return that put the Bills ahead for the first time in the fourth quarter. Florence, a nine-year veteran, called it the biggest interception of his career.
Offensively, the Bills won the battles at the end of the half and at the end of the game.
Fitzpatrick -- who threw for 369 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions -- led Buffalo to 10 points in the final two minutes of the second quarter. Fitzpatrick also drove the Bills 70 yards in the final 3:25 to set up Rian Lindell's 26-yard field goal.
I asked Lindell in the locker room about the pressure of making that chip shot, perhaps the biggest kick in the last decade for Buffalo.
"I'll tell you what," Lindell said with a smile. "I would have just ran up that tunnel and kept on running if I missed."
Maybe that would have happened to the 2000-2010 Bills. But this is a new era in Buffalo. The breaks are starting to fall the Bills' way, as evidenced by Patriots receiver Chad Ochocinco's drop of a sure touchdown pass in the fourth quarter. Bills receiver Steve Johnson did the same thing last season in a Week 12 overtime loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Bills linebacker Nick Barnett, who played for the Packers' Super Bowl championship team last season, has been around a lot of good teams. He thinks Buffalo is on to something.
"This can be one of the best teams. It just depends on how we continue to grow," Barnett said. "It’s too early to talk about we're going to the Super Bowl or this and that. We still got some growth to do. But I think we're playing [well]. If the offense keeps putting up 30 points, there’s no way we should lose, ever."

Week 3 in Fantasy Football: Favorable and Unfavorable Matchups

Dear Minnesota Vikings: Your quarterback, Donovan McNabb, needs all the help he can get. So why are you limiting the role of your best receiver, Percy Harvin?

While we wait for a hand-written letter from the Vikings’ coaching staff explaining this madness, you should probably avoid starting both players in Week 3. Their opponents this week, the Detroit Lions, have proved to be a tough matchup for quarterbacks in the first two weeks, allowing the second-fewest points to the position. You know you can find a better matchup, and we’re here to help.
Matt Hasselbeck (TEN) vs. Denver – If you’re in a bind at quarterback, Hasselbeck may offer some relief, at least this week. The Ravens dared the Titans to beat them through the air in Week 2 by focusing on Chris Johnson. Hasselbeck responded with great poise and accuracy, going 30 of 42 for 358 yards and a touchdown. The Bengals rookie Andy Dalton, who was playing through an injured wrist, took advantage of a Champ Bailey-less Denver secondary to the tune of 332 yards and 2 touchdowns, and the star cornerback could be missing again in Week 3.

Ryan Fitzpatrick (BUF) vs. New England – The Amish Rifle is off to a hot start, having thrown just as many touchdown passes as Mathew Stafford and Tom Brady (7) through the first two weeks. Odds are favorable that he stays sharp, as New England’s secondary has looked a lot like last year’s version, allowing an eye-opening 35 fantasy points a game on average to the position.

Cam Newton (CAR) vs. Jacksonville – O.K., we didn’t see 400-plus yards coming against the Packers last week, but neither did you, so we’re off the hook for now. Play Newton against a Jacksonville defense allowing 21 fantasy points a game to quarterbacks.

Rex Grossman (WAS) vs. Dallas — A third straight week for Grossman on our favorable matchups list. We know, it’s getting predictable, but Dallas has given up 22 points to the position on average and the Redskins’ ground game will have a tough go against the second-best run defense in the league.

Lions roaring as road favorite

  Now that's more like it.
Pro Picks rallied as if Josh Freeman was leading the charge, going 11-4-1 against the spread and 13-3 straight up. That was as impressive a turnaround as what the Steelers and Titans displayed in Week 2 after ugly openers.
Or as noteworthy as what is going on for Detroit. The Lions not only are 2-0, but this week are road favorites. In a division game, no less.
The Lions' roar has been heard in Tampa and at Ford Field, with Detroit outscoring the Bucs and then the Chiefs by a combined 75-23. This isn't the team we've grown to ignore except when they host the early Thanksgiving Day game — or when they are going 0-16.
Nope, these Lions are a 3½-point choice at Minnesota, and rightfully so after the power they have shown. The Vikings are 0-2 and, while they haven't been nearly as hapless as some of the other winless squads, they twice have blown late leads.
In this game, they won't likely have a late lead. Or any sort of lead, unless the Lions get cocky.
"We have some experienced players and they know that two games don't make a season," Lions coach Jim Schwartz said. "We have a hard-working group of players that understand that it's not about what you've done in the past, it's what you do in the future ... nobody's trying to rain on any parades or anything else, but it's two games."
Soon to be three games won.
LIONS, 24-16
We usually like home underdogs. In this case, though, see last week: "Until otherwise notified, the Patriots will be the choice to cover, whatever the spread."
BEST BET: PATRIOTS, 41-28
Let the weirdness continue for Dolphins: lose at home, win on the road.
UPSET SPECIAL: DOLPHINS, 16-13
This would be the upset special if the Raiders were healthier. They should at least cover.
JETS, 20-19
Pack is in Super Bowl form, losing players (Nick Collins) and winning games.
PACKERS, 28-16
Inside the Superdome could be a true proving ground for the Texans. Or not.
SAINTS, 34-27
If this game is close in final period, count on Freeman and the Bucs.
BUCCANEERS, 24-23
Titans come off big win without getting much from Chris Johnson. They'll get plenty this week.
TITANS, 24-20
Niners' first road game — and they will remain in the East before their second next week at Philadelphia.
49ERS, 16-13
Time for Cam Newton to either come down to Earth, or get his first pro win.
PANTHERS, 27-16
Chiefs have been league's worst team by far. Can't believe they are really that bad.
CHARGERS, 30-20
Winless and battered is no way to face the angry (at themselves) Ravens.
RAVENS, 17-10
How juicy: Big Ben vs. four-time MVP Peyton ... oh, wait. Wrong year.
STEELERS, 22-7
OK, forget about that attraction to home underdogs, considering these last three picks.
CARDINALS, 23-10
Redskins can stamp themselves as a real contender in NFC East with a win. Tony Romo's injured ribs force this one off the board.
COWBOYS, 26-21
Michael Vick's status clouds this game and eliminates any betting line. But Eagles still are the healthier (and superior) team.
EAGLES, 24-17
RECORD:
Against spread: 11-4-1 (overall 17-13-2); straight up 13-3 (overall 19-13).
Best Bet: 1-1 against spread, 1-1 straight up.
Upset Special: 1-1 against spread, 1-1 straight up.

Defections Won’t Sabotage Big East

A defiant John Marinatto, the Big East commissioner, said Monday night that he was confident the league would emerge stronger from the loss of Syracuse and Pittsburgh to the Atlantic Coast Conference over the weekend.Interviews, insight and analysis from The Times on the competition and culture of college football.
Marinatto said in a telephone interview that he planned to hold Syracuse and Pittsburgh to their 27-month contractual exit obligations, meaning that they would not be able to leave the Big East until June 2014.Marinatto also echoed the disappointment of his peers around the Big East that A.C.C. officials like Commissioner John Swofford and Boston College Athletic Director Gene DeFilippo had openly speculated about playing the league’s postseason basketball tournament in Madison Square Garden. The Big East holds a contract with the Garden for its basketball tournament through 2016 and has played the tournament there since 1983.
“We have a track record of coming out stronger than we did before,” Marinatto said, referring the A.C.C.’s raid of three Big East teams in 2003. “We may even hold the opening round of our basketball tournament in Greensboro,” a frequent site of the A.C.C. tournament, he said in jest. With the departure of Syracuse and Pitt, the Big East is down to 7 teams in football and 15 in basketball, including Texas Christian, which arrives next year.
The conference’s next move will be determined only once the murky situation in the Big 12 sorts itself out. If Texas, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Texas Tech head to the Pacific-12, as they appear to be leaning, it will leave the Big East with some potential new members. That group could include Kansas, Kansas State, Baylor, Iowa State and possibly Missouri.Marinatto would not comment specifically on the Big 12, but did say that “we’ve had a number of schools reach out to us about membership.”He added, “In addition, obviously, the dynamics that are taking place within the college landscape today may create even greater opportunities for the conference to not only survive, but thrive.”
A Big 12 official, who insisted on anonymity because of the delicacy of the topic, confirmed that a number of Big 12 universities had been in touch with the Big East about membership. The Big East’s two most critical advantages will be its basketball tournament and its Bowl Championship Series bid. The basketball tournament gives the league significant presence in New York and enough television programming to dominate ESPN for a week in March.

Athletic Director Jack Swarbrick of Notre Dame, which is a Big East member in basketball and many other sports, said those core assets should be enough to hold the league together.“Obviously, when you lose some members, you have some work to do,” he said. “When you start asking yourself, what are the core assets, the Big East is in pretty good shape.”Swarbrick acknowledged that the public courting of other leagues by some member universities was not positive for the Big East. He did not specifically mention Connecticut and Rutgers, who have made it known that they are trying to find a new home.
Marinatto said he felt there would be a strong group of members in the league in the future. “We may look different, but we will be better,” he said.Marinatto acknowledged that he had been criticized in the news media since the departure of Pitt and Syracuse. His only response was, “It’s not about me.”Mike Tranghese, a former Big East commissioner, defended Marinatto, saying there was nothing he could have done to prevent the departure of Pitt and Syracuse. The Orange nearly left in 2003 until Virginia politics led the A.C.C. to take Virginia Tech.
Marinatto said he held separate conference calls on Sunday with the presidents of the Big East’s football and basketball members. He said that there was a unity among the presidents and that there was no momentum toward the league’s football and basketball members breaking apart.“Both groups are focused on maintaining the current structure of the conference and moving forward,” he said.
Tranghese was far more vocal in his displeasure with Swofford’s and DeFilippo’s mentioning playing in the Garden, especially because the comments came immediately after the death of Dave Gavitt, the Big East’s founder.“I find it very disrespectful, and I’m offended by it,” Tranghese said. “It hurts me beyond disbelief. Dave helped both John and Gene through their years.”He added about the notion of the A.C.C. tournament in New York, “I can sure tell you that I won’t be there watching it.”

Yaroslavl tragedy highlights the abhorrence of football's tribal hatreds

Just consider the terrible loss, the numbness and raw tragedy of young men in their sporting prime robbed of their future by the plane crash which decimated the Russian ice hockey team, Lokomotiv Yaroslavl.
Then think of the families left behind, the parents, the children, the wives and girlfriends. Then consider the ugly prospect of rival supporters, months or years down the line, glorifying such tragic events with chants mocking the dead merely because those killed wore the wrong colours or played for the wrong team.

Two days after the tragic events in Russia, when 43 people, including 36 team and staff from Lokomotiv Yaroslavl perished after the plane carrying them crashed shortly after taking off on a flight to Minsk, it is unimaginable to think that anybody, anywhere, could use the disaster as a tool of hate.
Who could hear the story of Yuri Urychev, the 19-year-old who chose to fly to Minsk, despite being both injured and suspended, because he wanted to be with his Lokomotiv team-mates, and then desecrate his memory by chanting about the accident which cost him his life?Perhaps Russian society is not scarred by the tribalism which has blighted English football, however.
In England, Manchester United endure chants about the Munich air disaster, Leeds United fans face rival supporters mocking the deaths of two supporters in Istanbul eleven years ago, while 22 years after 96 Liverpool supporters died at Hillsborough, fans of some clubs still take some gratification out of chants or internet slurs relating to the disaster in Sheffield.
Put simply, the premature loss of players and supporters of rival clubs has become, among some at least, an accepted target for abuse. When United visit Bolton on Saturday, will the bitterness caused by an FA Cup triumph being overlooked by a nation 53 years ago, when Wanderers beat United at Wembley just three months after Munich, lead to the Munich chants from the home supporters that have been a curse to Bolton for years?
Will Leeds fans travel to Millwall again this season and be greeted by home supporters waving Galatasaray scarves, as they did last April, as a sickening reminder of the events in Istanbul in 2000?But, conversely, will Elland Road be free of Munich chants when Leeds host United for the first time in eight years in the Carling Cup later this month?
Will Manchester City supporters forego the ‘Who put the ball in the Munich's net’ chant which stained their victory at Blackburn last April, the next time they play United? What will happen when United and Liverpool clash at Anfield on Oct 15?England’s two biggest and most illustrious clubs are united by the tragedies that have befallen both, yet supporters on each side of the divide continue to mock Munich and Hillsborough.Such is the depth of antipathy and loathing between the fans of some of England’s top clubs that news of United sending a letter of condolence to Yaroslavl prompted some on Twitter to accuse the club of seeking good PR by publicising the correspondence.
A shared grief and collective loss is, therefore, now twisted into something approaching exploitation of a tragedy. But then maybe that highlights the problem — the utterly one-eyed outlook of those who feel free to resort to hate-filled chants and taunts.Perhaps it is the passing of time which diminishes the shock and horror and leads to the mocking of the dead. With Yaroslavl still at the forefront of the minds of everyone in the sporting world and beyond, it is simply incomprehensible to imagine Russian ice hockey being scarred by the Munich or Hillsborough-style taunts in the future. But it happens in England and, despite the harrowing images of loss in Russia, does anyone really expect it to go away?

The hand feels ten times better than

St. Louis, MO (Sports Network) - St. Louis Rams quarterback Sam Bradford made some progress as he recovers from a bruised index finger, and he should be able to start Monday night's road game against the New York Giants.
"He's kind of over the hump with some things," Rams head coach Steve Spagnuolo said. "It looks like he's going to be okay. It would be the understatement of the year to say that it's a relief."
Bradford threw during Wednesday's practice session. He was hurt during a 31-13 season-opening loss to the Eagles on Sunday.
"The hand feels ten times better than it did on Sunday, even on Monday," Bradford said. "That's encouraging. Hopefully it continues to get better. Hopefully it will be 100 percent by Monday."
Bradford said he was wearing a special glove. It's supposed to increase blood flow to the finger, which is meant to take down the swelling. However, Bradford said he would not use it in game situations.
"Everyone says I look like Michael Jackson," Bradford said. "I'm really not sure what it does, but it does something."
Spagnuolo said nothing was changed as far as the status of running back Steven Jackson, who sustained a quad strain in the season opener. The Rams hope to have a better idea if Jackson will play Monday by the end of this week.
Spagnuolo added that he didn't believe surgery would be necessary for wide receiver Danny Amendola, who suffered a dislocated left elbow on Sunday. Amendola is out indefinitely.
The Rams made several roster moves Wednesday, among them placing cornerback Ron Bartell on injured reserve (fractured neck). They also released center Drew Miller, signed safety Tim Atchison and running back Quinn Porter, released safety Jonathan Nelson from the practice squad, and signed quarterback Tom Brandstater and offensive tackle Tim Barnes to the practice squad.

One of my favorite things about this time of year is football

One of my favorite things about this time of year is football. From high school and college games to the NFL, football games can be exciting events that provide great entertainment. So to honor the start of the football season, here are my top five reasons to see a game this year.
1. It’s an excuse for a party
Not that you need an excuse to have your friends over, but planning a big party to watch a game can be great. Grill out while the weather is still nice or order a couple of pizzas, then sit back and cheer on your favorite team with your friends. Or grab your friends and head to a local restaurant. Many places have specials for the games and you don’t have to do the cleanup. And for those of you who have friends that like the opposing team… Raise the stakes and have some fun! A little competition never killed anyone.
2. Tailgating
Need I say more? What better way to spend your afternoon then tailgating at a game? Grab the cooler, food, and the tailgate toss and head to your favorite stadium to see a game.
3. Makes a great date
Let’s face it ladies, there aren’t many guys out there who don’t like football. So grab your boyfriend, husband, or best guy friend, and head out to a game. Go to a local high school game on a Friday night or plan a trip to see an NFL game. No matter where you go, you will have a great time cheering on the team and spending quality time with your guy. Plus, your man will love you for it.
4. If you are a girl, knowing something about football will make you look cool
And even if you are a guy, knowing what is going on in football is important. This time of year it is a key topic at all social functions, so guys and girls, you need to know a little something! You don’t want to be the only one at work Monday morning who missed the play of the year.
5. You might see the next football superstar
High school and college football are highly competitive and produce some great talent. Check out your local high schools to see when the top conference teams are playing or visit your local college and get a schedule. You never know, you could be watching the future Super Bowl MVP.

By everyone we mean fans

By everyone we mean fans, critics, the FCC and mothers ready to wash Coach Brian Kelly's mouth out with soap.
Notre Dame is one of a select group of schools already in early-season crisis mode.
Georgia faces a crucial home test against South Carolina; Oregon, a week after a poll-jarring loss to Louisiana State, needs to hold court in Eugene against Nevada; Auburn, which had to score twice in the final 2 minutes 8 seconds to beat Utah State, hosts dangerous Mississippi State; Texas Christian, undefeated last year, already has one loss heading to Air Force; and UCLA is possibly one San Jose State upset removed from eventually seeing Rick Neuheisel removed.
When they say every game counts in college football, well, they almost mean it.
Four straight wins to close 2010 had some observers thinking Notre Dame might be major-bowl material this year, but last week's home loss to South Florida captured the Irish in a very bad light.
Starting quarterback Dayne Crist was pulled in favor of Tommy Rees, who gets the start against the Wolverines. Rees went 4-0 as a starter last year after Crist was injured and Kelly hopes this isn't the start of a carousel.
"Nobody wants to go in and change their quarterbacks each and every week," he said.
Kelly is also on notice to curb his sideline behavior. He was caught last week on camera ranting and cursing at players, which many felt was out of bounds for the coach of a prominent Catholic institution.
"What I have to recognize is that I'm on TV all the time," Kelly said.
Or, stop cursing at players?
It's too early to panic for our Slow-Start Six, but it is definitely time to get the lead out.
Victory means: Notre Dame has momentum entering next week's home game against Michigan State and stays alive in its quest to reach a BCS bowl. Kelly probably cleaned up his sideline act and Rees probably played well enough to stabilize the quarterback position.
Defeat means: The Irish plummet to 0-2 going into the game coming against Michigan State, which has won in six of its last seven visits to South Bend. The Irish, who started 1-3 last year, once again are forced to crawl back from an early-season ditch.
Victory means: The Bulldogs offset last week's loss to Boise State with a more important in-conference victory against longtime nemesis Steve Spurrier and South Carolina, which was picked to win the Southeastern Conference East.
Defeat means: Georgia has fallen to 0-2 for the first time since 1996 and faces the wrath of an increasingly agitated fan base already disturbed by last season's 6-7 finish. The pressure mounts on Coach Mark Richt, who has averaged 9.6 wins per season in 10 seasons but hasn't pushed the program to the top.

10:06am: To paraphrase Pink Floyd: does anyone here remember ... David James? Well, if you do, you may even be vaguely aware that he's stil on the books of Bristol City and, therefore, is about to get a first-hand view of the Gus Poyet's upwardly mobile Brighton side. He'll also get an answer to the intriguing question posed below by Piltrafilla (punctuation added by me, in the hope that Piltrafilla will try harder next time): "Will Gus Poyet go with Craig 'rooney' Nooney, Will "Bucksfizz' Buckley, Kazenga 'so good they named him twice' Lua Lua or the newly signed Vicente 'little bit of stardust' Rodriguez on the left wing?"
10am: As the All Blacks run in another try, another, entirely unrelated question springs to mind: where could you find David Beckham, slinky young Danish thing Christian Eriksen and no-nonsense, not-much-class striker Rob Hulse clustered together in happy unison. Why, in today's Rumour Mill, of course.
Rugby update: So I left my desk for a moment to negotiate what turned out to be a highly complicated coffee transaction (how do you say 'coffee and milk' in Slick City talk? I thought it was an Americano ... and now here I am with coffee and no milk. Bah!) and I happened to catch sighjt of the rugyb. And I can tell you that New Zealand are already cruising against Tonga, to the tune of 15-0. For more on the rugby world cup, follow Barry Glendenning's ruck-by-gouge account here.
Hello and good morning and welcome and, just to recap because it's early and some of us may have had an unsettled night, hello and good morning and welcome. This is our weekly pre-weekend blog, in which we preview the football weeekend and provide you with regular breaking news, dispatches from managers' press conferences around the country and discuss football matters both weighty and light-hearted.
No Mega Super Sunday Deluxe clashes this weekend but the Premier League promises plenty of intrigue all the same. We could, for instance, get answers to the following questions:
1) HOW THE HECK will Arsenal respond to their 8-2 humiliation at Old Trafford? Will Yossi Benayoun and Mikel Arteta be parachuted straight into the team to rescue the ramshackle Gunners (or will they incur injuries in training and be out for a week ... no, a month ... no, the whole season)? Arsene Wenger his holding a press conference today at which he will, presumably, discuss those very matters and, as ever, the mental state of the most psycholanalysed team in the land. We have a correspondent in situ to bring you the news from there.
2) Has there ever been a more catchy rallying cry than the one bugled by the Everton fans who are organising a protest march at Goodison Park ahead of the home game against Aston Villa tomorrow. Frustrated by the "stagnation" of their club, they're calling for radical change. Here's their snappy call-to–arms: "The aim of the protest is to promote the concept of allowing the CEO to be left to concentrate on reducing costs, developing our revenue streams and repairing the relationship with the fanbase whilst leaving the board to appoint a fully autonomous group of professional individuals who can effectively develop and implement a strategy that will identify and sell the club to a buyer who can demonstrate an ability and a genuine desire to take the club forward on both a commercial and football level." Take that, anyone who says modern football is just big business!
3) Do Manchester City constitute the ultimate test of Roberto Martinez's ability to organise a defence?
4) Are Chelsea back on the up now that Juan Mata and Romelu Lukaku are here and will that pair start at Sunderland? Or do their problems require deeper surgery than that?
5) Will Wolves go top of the table? by beating Spurs by a landslide (and, um, profiting from shock defeats for the Manchester clubs, Liverpool and Chelsea)? Or will Emmanuel Adebayor help inflict their first defeat of the season?
6) Will Andy Carroll go on the lash against Stoke and bag his first Premier League goals of the season? Or will Tony Pulis's commandos ambush Liverpool's bandwagon?
(Try to imagine the next batch of questions being posed in some sort of converted warehouse and in the company of resolutely non-shiny-shirt wearing, blue-collar pundits such as Steve Claridge, the set-up seemingly being chosen to underline the more gritty, real nature of lower league football).
7) Will the Saints go marching on? and fell Nottingham Forest, thereby ensuring Steve McLaren gets the chop?
8) Will Chesterfield get the first win of their season against Bournemouth?
9) Are Scunthorpe the team to blunt Sheffield United?. Well, are they?
10) Will Lawrie Sanchez embellish his CV by adding a victory over Crewe, one of the few teams currently below his Barnet side in League Two.
If you any other questions - or, even better, if you have answers - please post them below or send them by email.

Gwyneth Paltrow prefers to accept supporting

Gwyneth-Paltrow-happy-with-lesser-roles
Gwyneth Paltrow prefers to accept supporting roles since she became a mother.
The Oscar-winning actress has two kids with husband Chris Martin – Apple, seven, and Moses, five. She finds it difficult to commit to lead movie roles because she doesn’t like spending time away from her kids.
"I still haven't done a starring role in a movie since I had my daughter because it means too many days away,” she said at the press conference for her new movie Contagion at the Venice Film Festival. "I can't do it. So I do good supporting roles, basically."
In Contagion, Gwyneth plays an adulterous wife who unknowingly brings a deadly virus into America. The star insists she enjoyed spending long periods of time in make-up trailers to ensure she looked like a dying woman.
"It was fun. I liked all the gory make-up and it was a change, it was nice,” she explained. “It was exciting."
The 38-year-old star refuses to get too worried about the threat of a deadly disease destroying the world’s population.
"We live in an over-populated planet and the farming practices, the way we're cutting down forests, we're going to be seeing more of this kind of thing but you can worry or just not worry,” she added. "You can be smart and if you're going somewhere where your body is not used to those germs, there are things you can do but I'm not overly paranoid about it.
"I have lots of fears but I think it's important to remember the reason we have fear is to keep us alive. But it can also very quickly become an irrational thing so I always try to minimise fear.”
Contagion – which also stars Kate Winslet, Matt Damon and Jude Law – is released worldwide from this month.

Obama Is President, but Football Is King

The opening game — Saints at Packers, the past two Super Bowl champions, Thursday night — was engraved in the minds of fans. Nothing could get in its way. Nothing.
The lockout of midsummer is long gone. The players got an extra day or two out of the brutal sun of training camp. These people, the players and the owners, generate too much money to shut down a sport over a percentage point here or there.
The seasonal return of the king even loomed over what one would like to think are more important issues, like a presidential talk. A week ago the White House tried to arrange a speech by President Obama about the pressing issue of the day, jobs and the economy, but Representative John A. Boehner, the speaker of the House, balked because of the Republican candidates’ debate that night.
All of a sudden, this became more than party politics and good manners and jockeying for 2012. When the president’s speech was moved to Thursday, the White House found the need to address the massive shadow of King Football. “I can assure all you football fans that he will be completed before kickoff,” the White House spokesman, Jay Carney, said on Thursday.
Obama is scheduled to speak at 7 p.m. Eastern, and the Saints-Packers game is set for 8:30 p.m. But that was not enough.
For the people out there who fret that Obama is not a football-loving manly man real American, Carney reassured the multitudes that he had the same priorities as everybody else in this great land of ours.
“It means he will have the opportunity to watch the game, like millions of other Americans,” Carney said.
Notice the press secretary said “opportunity.” Personally, I’d like to think the president will rush home, shuck the business suit, get into his jeans, and read a bedtime story to his daughters rather than watch large people give each other concussions. And later maybe he could slip into the gym to shoot baskets to work off the brutal load of stress.
Even the reassurance that Obama has the right priorities was not enough. Everybody in petulant America wants the man to do more, something else, better, right now, get mad, get even, solve the problem with a catchphrase or a snap of his fingers. But at the same time, some football fans on the Web have been brooding that the speech on jobs will somehow force television to skimp on pregame videos of brain-rattling tackles from last season.
Fear not. The show will go on, from now until the Super Bowl. The N.F.L. has a 10-year labor contract. The average franchise is worth $1.022 billion, according to Forbes. All is right with the world, despite rising medical evidence that a frightening proportion of players are developing dementia and dying young, from brain damage. The N.F.L. tinkers with the rules, while King Football rumbles onward.
The fans have the right to anticipate the new season, with dramas and loyalties varying from city to city. The N.F.L., with its national network contracts, has the fabulous karma of a tiny city in northern Wisconsin winning the Super Bowl. There is nothing comparable in any other American team sport. The survival of Green Bay is as much fun to ponder as a muddy game on the tube. Los Angeles still does not have a football team. (Or a baseball team, some would say.) The Colts may have to do without Peyton Manning. Like him or loathe him, Michael Vick has made one of the great comebacks in American sport.
And in New York, we get two plots from two very different teams.
The Giants, with a huge swath of fans in the region, have won one Super Bowl with Tom Coughlin and stuck with him through some disappointing seasons. With a third generation of Maras and a second generation of Tisches, the Giants take the long view.
The Jets have forced New Yorkers to drop the stereotype of the goofy, vaguely cursed franchise that, between sporadic moments of glory, would find a way to self-destruct. In the era of Woody Johnson, Mike Tannenbaum and Rex Ryan, the Jets have become, dare one say this, consistent.
Ryan ensures they will always play with swagger, and sometimes act in bad taste, but give them their due, they back it up, with a locker full of characters allowed to be themselves. In the first two seasons of Ryan and Mark Sanchez, the Jets have a 20-12 record and have played in two conference championship games.
All over this football-loving nation, a new season begins Thursday night. The real world has given its solemn promise not to intrude.
